Finally, after much ado, the recycled vegetable fuel project is almost complete. The photo below shows me siphoning some golden veggie oil from the huge storage container at the Georgia Center. They are kind enough to aid in this project, helping Athens move one step further on the path to sustainability.
During our final work week on the farm, I was bitten by some mysterious insect while weeding in the raspberries. My wrist swole up a fair amount, but after I applied some of UGArden’s Healing Salve, the swelling and pain diminished substantially! I don’t know what exactly Maise puts in the salve, but it sure does the trick.
For the majority of the semester, my contribution towards harvesting, washing, weighing and bundling has focused on harvesting and washing. This past week I was able to help weigh and bundle some of our awesome produce, too! Seeing all of our hard work manifest in it’s final form is so rewarding.
Bundling produce for donations and market. It was fun doing this on last day of interning!
Not a fun task but it’s neccessary to maintain good crop yields and reduce pests/disease level.
