This week we have been slowly harvesting the old beds of kale and replacing them with sweet onion transplants. Before we planted the onions, we amended the bed with rich compost to increase the organic matter content. After mixing up the topsoil, we raked the bed to achieve a flat surface and aligned the drip irrigation. After that we planted the onions every six inches in rows of three. Now we let nature do her work and await for the harvest in the spring.
