Fungus Among Us

This past Thursday, Tanner and I harvested the shiitake mushrooms! It was exciting because this was a first time for both of us. We had to pay careful attention to each mushroom picked because, although we only inoculated the logs with shiitake mushrooms, other fungal species might grow around them. We were looking for the caps with white gills and had to toss the shiitakes with yellow gills, as they were past their prime. Unfortunately, we were not able to harvest enough for market, but hopefully in a week or so, we’ll have more!
