Purple Power

photo 3

Spotted recently in one plot is this beautiful purple cauliflower. I was intrigued because I had never seen one, only the usual white and also the green and yellow. I investigated it some and found that purple cauliflower is an old variety originating in either Italy or South Africa, though its true wild origin is not quite known. Its color is due to the natural presence of the antioxidant anthocyanin, which can also be found in red cabbage and red wine and not due to scientific manipulation.
